Each perfume gets up to 100 points: one part comes from what US shoppers rated it, three parts come from recorded facts. We don't add our own taste.
- Shopper rating, up to 35: the star rating and review count from a major US retailer (Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom or Bluemercury), adjusted so a handful of reviews can't outweigh thousands. Stars are blended with a starting value of 4.2 worth 50 reviews; an adjusted 3 stars or less earns nothing and 5 stars earns full points. Perfumes with no single-scent retailer reviews get the starting value.
- Pistachio prominence, up to 25: listed in the top, heart and base 25; heart note or headline key note 19; base note 16; top note only 12.
- Concentration, up to 15: parfum or extrait 15; eau de parfum intense 13; eau de parfum 10; eau de toilette 6; body or perfume mist 3. Stronger concentrations generally last longer on skin.
- Value, up to 25: full points at $0.50 per ml or less, falling in a straight line to zero at $5.00 per ml.
